Thailand is aiming to attract more than THB 1 billion (USD 28 million) in investment from foreign filmmakers in 2024, according to the director-general of the Department of Tourism. He mentioned that the Thailand Film Office will be participating in the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (HK Filmart 2024) from March 11 to 14. During the event, the Department of Tourism, along with the ministries of Culture and Commerce, will jointly showcase Thailand’s film and television industry to persuade foreign movie production teams to choose Thailand as their shooting location. Various incentives will be offered to foreign filmmaking crews, including a 20% cash rebate.
Filmart 2024, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, serves as a significant platform for the global entertainment industry, with participants from Hong Kong, mainland China, and various other countries. Variety.com noted that the event explores content from diverse regions such as the European Union, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Macao, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The Thailand Film Office, operating under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Department of Tourism, supports and facilitates foreign film production in Thailand. It grants permits for filmmaking while ensuring that it positively represents Thailand. Additionally, the agency participates in international film festivals to promote Thailand as a filming location and encourages the utilization of local film production services.
