Airbus Helicopters in Thailand and the Thai Army Transportation Engineering School (ATE) have formalized an academic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide internship opportunities in aircraft mechanics. Signed in June 2024 by Alexandre Sanchez, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Thailand, and Colonel Wanchai Prasanseang, Manager of ATE, the MoU ceremony took place at the school in Nonthaburi.
The agreement outlines Airbus Helicopters’ commitment to offering selected students short-term internships, blending theoretical knowledge with practical training to better prepare them for careers as aircraft mechanics. This initiative aligns with the government’s educational policies and aims to create a skilled workforce for the European aircraft manufacturer.
The internship program emphasizes the development of English language skills through online and onsite activities, promoting continuous improvement and innovation. ATE teachers will also contribute to curriculum development and gain opportunities for professional advancement.
Airbus Helicopters has been integral to Thailand’s aviation sector since the 1980s, beginning with the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation’s acquisition of the AS350 for utility and aerial surveillance. Over the decades, more than 70 Airbus helicopters have been deployed in various military and public service roles in Thailand. Airbus maintains a significant presence in Thailand, including a regional helicopter maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in Bangkok.
The Royal Thai Army operates H125M helicopters for reconnaissance and H145/Lakota helicopters for utility operations. The Royal Thai Air Force uses H225M helicopters for search and rescue missions and H135 helicopters for advanced training. The Royal Thai Navy employs H145M helicopters for transport and maritime support, while the Royal Thai Armed Forces use H155 helicopters for multi-mission purposes.
Alexandre Sanchez highlighted the partnership’s importance in providing practical training to equip students with essential skills for successful careers in aircraft mechanics, contributing to the growth of Thailand’s aviation industry.
