Japan has just inaugurated a trading platform designed to increase exports of Japanese F&B products to Thailand and further promote Japanese cuisine in the Southeast Asian country.
The establishment of the Japan Food Export Platform is in line with the Japanese government´s plans to increase export of agricultural, forest and fishery products to USD 38.58 billion by 2030. In this context, Thailand is seen as a key market for significantly increasing Tokyo’s farm exports. Importantly, Thais are already enthusiastic consumers of some Japanese F&B specialties, such as wagyu beef and Japanese strawberries.
The Japanese diplomatic mission in Thailand as well as overseas offices of the government-backed Japan External Trade Organization will also play a key role in promoting Japanese F&B in Thailand.
In turn, Japan’s Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Kaneko pledged that his country would make it more convenient to import oranges and mangosteen from Thailand. Food and agricultural goods to Japan from 2019 to 2021 constituted of over 11% of all Thai F&B exports.
