U Power Signs MOU To Deploy Battery-Swapping Heavy Trucks In Thailand

September 2025

U Power Limited, a provider of AI-based solutions for energy grids and intelligent transportation systems, announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SAIC Hongyan Automotive and UNEX EV to deploy battery-swapping compatible electric heavy trucks in Thailand. The agreement also explores potential expansion into other markets, including Southeast Asia, Latin America, Europe, Hong Kong, and Macau.

The collaboration will initially introduce 3,000 electric heavy-duty tractors for long-haul transport and 1,200 electric heavy-duty port trucks for short-distance operations in Thailand. U Power will lead the development and operation of compatible battery-swapping stations. UNEX EV will adapt SAIC Hongyan heavy trucks for battery swapping, develop compatible battery modules, and promote sales in Thailand. SAIC Hongyan will supply truck prototypes and provide technical support to ensure compatibility with U Power’s battery-swapping infrastructure.

The initiative aims to support the adoption of sustainable commercial transportation, focusing on major highway logistics and container port operators.

Executives from the three companies highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership. UNEX EV emphasized its goal of developing scalable and sustainable heavy truck electrification models. SAIC Hongyan noted the benefits of operational flexibility and efficiency for fleet operators. U Power highlighted the growing demand for sustainable logistics solutions and its recent launch of Southeast Asia’s first operational smart battery-swapping station in Phuket, along with prior deliveries of swappable electric vehicles for ride-hailing services.

The partnership is positioned to advance zero-emission transportation in Thailand while establishing a foundation for potential regional and global expansion.
