Vestas Wins Order for 42 MW Wind Power Project in Vietnam

April 2019

Danish wind turbine manufacturer, Vestas, has won an order for 10 V150-4.2 MW wind turbines for an unnamed client in Vietnam. The company describes the V150-4.2 MW wind turbine as one of the highest producing low-wind turbines in the industry. The 42 MW order includes supply and installation of 10 V150-4.2 MW wind turbines along with a ten-year AOM 5000 Energy-based service agreement. Turbine delivery is expected to start in the last quarter of 2019.

Vestas has previously invested in 4 projects in Vietnam. To reduce overall cost for customer, the company has customized slimmer 105-metre site-specific towers that require less steel.

With a coastline of more than 3,000 km and located in the monsoonal climate zone, Vietnam has one of the best wind potentials in South East Asian region. The government of Vietnam aims to produce more than 10% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Wind power capacity is targeted to reach about 1,000 MW by 2020 and 6,200 MW by 2030. Vietnam’s current total installed wind power capacity is about 190 MW, with four wind farms onshore and near shore with a capacity of 6 MW to 100 MW each. An additional 263 MW of wind power is under construction and 412 MW is in the process of appraisal approval.
