The Philippines is accelerating efforts to modernize its agricultural sector through digital innovation and capacity-building. The Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) is leading several initiatives to equip farmers and agricultural learning hubs with technology-driven tools and training to boost productivity and sustainability.
At the 4th Learning Sites for Agriculture (LSA) Summit in the Cordillera region, ATI Director Remelyn R. Recoter urged LSA operators to adopt digital tools and sustainable practices, positioning LSAs as drivers of smart and organized farming. The summit showcased local products, featured consultations with national agencies, and shared success stories from award-winning farmers.
A key highlight was the Digital Farmers program, which provides farmers with digital literacy and tools to improve market access, streamline operations, and support data-driven farm management. Farmers were also encouraged to document their learning journeys digitally to inspire wider adoption of modern practices.
These efforts form part of a broader government strategy to empower rural communities by merging technology, training, and collaboration. By digitizing agriculture, the Philippines aims to strengthen food security, enhance competitiveness, and build resilience among farming communities in the face of evolving economic and environmental challenges.
