The industrial park and real estate logistics developer and operator arm of Ayala Corporation, AyalaLand Logistics Holdings Corporation (ALLHC), is placing a significant bet on its cold storage facilities as it seeks to increase its capacity by at least four times its current size by 2025. The goal is to reach the underserved regions of the Philippines that do not have a reliable infrastructure for food logistics.
Through its subsidiary ALogis Artico, ALLHC currently manages three cold storage facilities with a combined 10,000 pallet capacity: two in Binan, Laguna province (Luzon region), and one that just opened in Mandaue, Cebu province (Visayas region). Through a joint venture with Glacier Megafridge, Inc., it also opened a 5,348-pallet cold storage facility in the province of Cagayan De Oro (Mindanao region) in June 2023.
ALLHC stated that demand for institutional users, supermarkets, convenience store restaurants, and food manufacturers is quite high. It plans to build cold and dry storage facilities in Pampanga province (Luzon region) to serve fruit and vegetable growers in northern Philippines, such as Baguio City, as well as rice and other commodity granaries in Nueva Ecija province. The Philippines currently has a low refrigeration capacity per capita of 0.04 cubic meters, compared to Vietnam and South Korea, which have capacities of 0.17 and 0.28 cubic meters, respectively.
