The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to commence the PHP 1.5 billion (USD 26.4 million) third phase of the new passenger terminal at Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City. This phase will include essential facilities such as public restrooms, ticketing booths, waiting areas, rescue and firefighting facilities, and more.
The project will be bid out within the month, with construction expected to start later this year or early next year. As of May, the overall terminal construction was 79% complete, focusing on the main bridge, electrical systems, and fire protection. The second phase, budgeted at PHP 1.05 billion (USD 18.5 million), is projected to be completed by early 2026.
Despite some delays, the project is closely monitored by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. The airport was the seventh busiest in 2022, handling over 1.4 million passengers.
