The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wärtsilä, a Finnish company that manufactures and services power sources in the marine and energy markets, to collaborate on projects to enable the introduction of next generation renewable fuels, optimize digital port operations, and develop future talent. Both players aim to seek to make port operations more efficient through the development of data exchange systems for vessels and port operations to support the sharing of data at scale, including real time data.
Additional areas of collaboration include the development of an operational concept for vessels and harbor craft utilizing AI-based monitoring, tracking, and incident response, making use of big data from Wärtsilä’s Navi-Port system, MPA’s digital platforms and other relevant sources. The two parties will also collaborate on assessing cyber threats and risks to shipboard systems, ship-shore system communications and MPA’s digital platforms, and explore working with partners and stakeholders to identify potential support avenues to improve the development of skills and competencies relating to digitalization and decarbonization in the future maritime workforce.
