Hong Kong’s TOSC, Salcon Form JV to Distribute Smart Water Systems in Malaysia

August 2020

Hong Kong’s The One Smart City Development Ltd (TOSC) via its subsidiary Wide Plus Smart City Sdn Bhd (WP), has signed a joint venture agreement with Malaysia’s leading water engineering company Salcon Bhd through its wholly-owned subsidiary Salcon Engineering Bhd to market, distribute and install smart water systems in Malaysia.

The shareholdings in the joint venture company, Digital Momentum Sdn Bhd (JVCo) will be held by Salcon and WP on 60:40 basis, with Salcon holding the majority. JVCo will also be renamed as Salcon WP Sdn Bhd after the joint venture process has been completed. Salcon also inked a Technology License Agreement (TLA) between TOSC and JVCo. JVCo will be providing end-to-end water management solutions throughout a water utility’s entire water network system supported by Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for remote meter reading, water quality, pressure and level monitoring and leakage detection. This will significantly advance Salcon’s portfolio to provide meter data management solutions in the local market.

Additionally, China’s Wide Plus High Precision Automation Limited (WPHP), which is linked to WP, has worked with Huawei to develop the 5G narrow-band internet of things (NB-IoT) integrated digitized smart water meter. The system was subsequently deployed in 2017 in Fuzhou, Tianjin, Hebei and Guangdong in China involving millions of NB-IoT water meters.
