On June 23rd, 2022, many hospitals in Vietnam introduced the country’s first-ever software for organ donation, management, allocation, and transplantation. The software promotion and relevant activities were coordinated by Cho Ray Hospital, Thong Nhat Hospital, and Children’s Hospital No.2 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Chief of Cho Ray’s unit for coordinating human organ transplants, Dr. Du Thi Ngoc Thu, disclosed that the software was developed and launched through a research project led by the municipal Department of Science and Technology at the three hospitals. He also stated that specifically, the system contains data and information on the waiting list to receive organs, donation, matching, and transplantation.
According to Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc, the Director of Cho Ray Hospital, organ donation and transplantation are intricate procedures that demand openness and cooperation in donation, allocation, and transplant to guarantee that the right patient receives the right organ. The Director also stated that the optimum use of organs and transparency in the entire donation process would be ensured through the implementation of information technology.
Cho Ray Hospital, the largest general hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, has recently reported that among the country’s meager organ donations, 94.1% come from those who are still alive and 5.9% come from people who have passed away.
