Opportunities for High Tech Shrimp Farming in Vietnam

April 2021

High tech shrimp farming is gaining traction in Vietnam. For instance, the province of Bac Lieu, in the Mekong Delta, recently revealed plans to expand super – intensive shrimp farming. The province is one of the Vietnam’s key areas for the farming of shrimp, counting over 25,800 ha of super-intensive and intensive shrimp farming. The Bac Lieu province also established a 418 ha hi-tech agriculture zone for shrimp development, with more than 30 companies having registered to invest in the zone.
Apart from intensive shrimp farming models, the province has developed environmentally friendly models to produce sustainable shrimp for export and local consumption.
In recent news Grobest, a shrimp feed specialist from India, initiated a cooperation with leading Vietnamese shrimp larvae hatcheries to diversify the supply of high-quality, high-yield larvae for shrimp farmers.
Grobest and its partners selected the broodstock to be used and set the nutritional criteria for each larval stage and the post-larvae (PL) product. Grobest also agreed to send a team of technicians to monitor the quality of PL products, ensuring they fit the companies’ criteria.
