Partnership to Open Hydroponic Vegetable Farm in Indonesia

February 2020

Japanese’s contractor, Obayashi, and Singaporean investment firm, Gallant Venture, have teamed up to open a hydroponic vegetable factory in northern Indonesia. The factory plant is expected to be completed by October this year, with first sales of the produce starting in January 2021.

Obayashi, which manages a cherry tomato factory in Chiba Prefecture in Japan, plans to grow cherry tomatoes and leafy greens to supply to Indonesia and neighboring Singapore. Healthy diet is gaining traction in both counties with strong demand for sweet tomatoes.

This project marks the start of a three-year trial to study South East Asia’s consumption trends and retail channels. Once the trial period ends, the two companies might convert it into a full-fledged business.
