Roche and Bayer Countering Non Communicable Diseases in Vietnam

January 2021

The Vietnam Medical Association (VMA) and biotech company Roche Vietnam recently signed a strategic partnership aiming to increase the rate of early breast cancer detection using advanced therapies in the 2020-2025 period. This is the first specialized project for breast cancer patients in Vietnam and will be deployed in key hospitals nationwide. It will include various activities, ranging from raising awareness and increasing early diagnosis to enhancing treatment capability and building comprehensive databases.
According to the Global Cancer Observatory, there are 21,555 new breast cancer cases per year in Vietnam. This form of cancer is the third most common in the country.
In other news, Vietnam’s Medical Services Administration (VMSA) and global pharmaceutical company Bayer recently signed a cooperation program on stroke prevention for the 2021-2023 period. The program aims to improve stroke awareness by creating an electronic communication portal that will provide useful medical information about stroke prevention and treatment compliance. The portal will be regularly updated and available as a subpage on VMSA’s website, providing recommendations on lifestyle changes that can help prevent strokes and improve overall health.
According to Vietnam News, there are around 200,000 stroke cases per year in Vietnam; half of them are fatal. Younger Vietnamese are increasingly suffering from strokes, with the number of cases growing by about 2% per year.
