Seatrium Collaborates with A*STAR to Explore AI Innovations for the Maritime Sector

May 2024

Seatrium Limited and Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) have announced a strategic collaboration to explore innovative opportunities in offshore energy and artificial intelligence (AI) for the Offshore and Marine (O&M) sector.

The partnership aims to leverage Seatrium’s industry insights and A*STAR’s research capabilities, including the Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore (TCOMS), to drive efficiency and reliability in the O&M sector’s transition to new energies. This includes the development of tailored solutions for hydrogen and ammonia applications, alongside advancements in AI for enhanced engineering processes and operational efficiency.

Together, they plan to address key challenges such as sustainable energy supply chains and automation in work site inspection, supporting the industry’s shift towards renewable sources and promoting cleaner energy practices. Previous collaborations have resulted in notable achievements like the world’s first made-in-Singapore Low Ultraviolet (LUV) Ballast Water Treatment System, reflecting a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability in the O&M sector.

Since 2008, Seatrium and A*STAR have collaborated on projects such as green shipping, digital design, automation, IoT, and advanced manufacturing. Seatrium emphasized that the collaboration with A*STAR is designed to accelerate the energy transition and maritime decarbonization, leveraging combined expertise to develop advanced renewable energy solutions. For their part, A*STAR highlighted that this partnership builds on previous successes and aligns with their shared vision of creating smarter and more sustainable solutions for the O&M sector.
