Germany’s Engineering Company Linde Begins Supplying Industrial Gases to Freeport Indonesia

November 2024

Linde, a globally renowned industrial gases and engineering company headquartered in Germany, has announced the commencement of its industrial gas supply to Freeport Indonesia. Freeport Indonesia, a major mining company in the country and a subsidiary of the U.S.-based Freeport-McMoRan Inc., will utilize Linde’s expertise and reliable gas solutions to support its operations.

Linde has invested USD 120 million in the construction, ownership, and operation of a state-of-the-art air separation unit (ASU), marking the largest facility of its kind in Indonesia and Linde’s largest in Southeast Asia. The new plant now provides oxygen and nitrogen to Freeport Indonesia’s copper smelter and refining facility in Manyar, one of the world’s largest copper processing sites. Additionally, the ASU will supply liquefied industrial gases to bot and existing bulk customers in East Java, further expanding Linde’s regional network and service capabilities.

The President of ASEAN & South Asia at Linde expressed pride in supporting Freeport Indonesia’s expansion, noting that as global demand for copper rises, Linde’s industrial gases play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of copper smelting. He explained that these gases increase production capacity while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Linde’s new on-site facility utilizes advanced technology to provide essential industrial gases safely and reliably to all customers in this critical industrial market.
