Singapore Retailers Venture into Malaysia

March 2023

Singapore-based fashion omnichannel platform Sift & Pick has entered Malaysia’s retail scene by opening its first brick-and-mortar location. In February 2023, the company opened its first physical store in Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur.

The store, which sells indie fashion bag brands from all over the world, is known for having a straightforward and modern retail design with white as the primary theme color. The new 464sqm boutique features fashion bag brands such as Marhen.J, Find Kapoor, Heureux, Joseph and Stacey, The Sophia Label and Tathata. Sift & Pick stated that having a store in Kuala Lumpur will eliminate the need for Malaysians to fly to Singapore’s Changi Airport to shop for the brands.

In addition to Sift & Pick, Singapore’s well-known retailer Mustafa announced its first retail store in Malaysia in January 2023. Mustafa, which operates its flagship 24-hour Mustafa Centre in Singapore’s Little India district, will purchase 591 unsold retail units in Capital City Mall, Johor Bahru. The MYR 368 million (USD 82 million) deal also includes 374 accessory parcels, comprising alfresco and multipurpose areas and all 2,181-car park lots.
