Thai company Advanced Info Service (AIS) is collaborating with AI & Robotics Ventures (ARV), a subsidiary of PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), to deploy an artificial intelligence (AI) autonomous drone system on an intelligent 5G wireless network.
The initiative, the first of its kind in Thailand, illustrates the potential of the Wangchan Valley, or Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation, which is emerging as a hub for developing and testing solutions for real-time use cases. Wangchan Valley is an initiative between PTT and Thailand’s National Science and Technology Development Agency. In this context, AIS and ARV developed a platform for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for several industrial applications.
This network architecture exploits the potential of autonomous network technology for autonomous network management, the use of network slicing methods to support applications running on the network, as well as multi-access Edge computing to support network management. According to ARV, the drone system is an example of a use case that has attained success and is being rolled out for real-world applications.
Wangchan Valley has emerged as the venue for this kind of trials and experimentation as there are special waivers and relaxed regulations to facilitate tests and research activities for drone technology under the UAV regulatory sandbox.
