Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the lead government agency for digital economy in Malaysia, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA), a UK-based mobile operators industry group to advance the development of 5G application utilizing use cases and digital economy growth.
MDEC Chief Executive Officer Mahadhir Aziz said MDEC and GSMA will collaborate to enhance interest in digital investments, in line with the new national strategic initiative, Malaysia Digital, and to develop the capability and capacity in Malaysia on 5G to drive digital investments. Smart cities, Industry 4.0, education, healthtech, environmental monitoring, and social inclusivity are among the sectors that will benefit from the use cases.
The MoU further states that GSMA will contribute by highlighting Malaysian case studies in its intelligence reports, such as the APAC Mobile Economy Report and Digital Societies report. The MoU will also enhance to improve environmental, social and governance (ESG) programs aimed at promoting inclusivity and sustainability of Malaysia’s digital economy.
