U.S.-based solar module manufacturer SEG Solar has begun construction on an integrated photovoltaic industrial park in the Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang (KITB) in Central Java, Indonesia, approximately 390 kilometers east of Jakarta. The facility, spanning over 40 hectares within the Grand Batang City industrial estate, represents an investment exceeding USD 500 million.
The project’s first phase involves the establishment of ten n-type cell production lines, with an expected annual capacity of 5 GW. Construction is scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2025. SEG Solar plans to collaborate with suppliers of solar components such as wafers, ingots, junction boxes, frames, and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) films to develop a fully integrated manufacturing ecosystem in Indonesia.
Michael Eden, SEG Solar’s co-founder, indicated that the facility is central to the company’s strategy to create a vertically integrated photovoltaic park, covering both upstream and downstream processes. The plant is expected to support SEG Solar’s operations in the U.S. while contributing to Indonesia’s carbon reduction initiatives.
KITB President Ngurah Wirawan stated that the project would play a key role in Indonesia’s green industry transformation. Deputy Minister for Investment Promotion Nurul Ichwan highlighted its significance for Indonesia’s renewable energy goals, noting that the facility is projected to create over 3,000 local jobs and enhance the country’s renewable energy industry presence globally.
