Vietnam’s FPT to Utilize Nvidia’s Chips for Its USD 200-million AI Factory

May 2024

Vietnam’s leading tech firm FPT announced plans to build a USD 200 million artificial intelligence (AI) factory utilizing Nvidia’s graphics chips and software. This initiative aims to enhance AI research in Vietnam, focusing on developing AI applications and solutions, including generative AI and autonomous driving, at the proposed data center factory.

FPT Chairman stated that FPT would establish factories in Vietnam and other potential markets, including Japan and South Korea. He emphasized FPT’s vision to transform Vietnam into an AI hub through collaboration with Nvidia in technology, business development, and training.

The two companies have also signed a comprehensive strategic partnership. Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang had previously expressed the company’s desire to expand partnerships with Vietnam’s top tech firms and support the country in developing AI talent and digital infrastructure. Keith Strier, Nvidia’s Vice President of Worldwide AI Initiatives, noted the the two companies were working with many different operating units within FPT.

The American chipmaker has invested over USD 250 million in Vietnam, although it remains unclear if the new partnership will increase this investment.

FPT, the most valuable tech company on Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City bourse with a market capitalization of USD 5.5 billion, offers a range of AI, cloud, and big data services, with total revenues exceeding USD 2 billion in 2023.
