Erex, based in Tokyo, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Lao Cai Province of Vietnam to explore the development of new biomass power generation projects in the Tang Loong Industrial Area. The MOU was formalized during an exchange ceremony held at the Vietnam Tourism Investment Conference in Tokyo in April 2024.
In Southeast Asia, the demand for electricity is rising alongside economic growth, leading to increased energy imports and a growing emphasis on decarbonization efforts. In response to these dynamics, Erex is actively involved in energy development initiatives, including the construction of biomass power plants in Vietnam, the development of biomass fuels in Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries, and biomass co-firing to convert coal-fired power plants. These efforts are part of Erex’s strategy in biomass power generation, aiming to promote decarbonization while ensuring domestic energy resource procurement.
Southeast Asian countries possess abundant untapped biomass resources, offering significant potential for renewable energy adoption. Erex believes its accumulated expertise can effectively contribute to this sector’s growth, fostering both renewable energy integration and job creation across the region. In alignment with global goals such as “Zero Emissions 2050,” Erex plans to expand its biomass business in collaboration with leading domestic and international partners, aiming to advance global decarbonization efforts and address energy challenges worldwide.
