Dow to Expand Production of Propylene Glycol Capacity in Thailand

July 2021

Dow, the global leading materials science company headquartered in the United States, has just announced a plan to expand its propylene glycol (PG) capacity at its existing facility in Map Ta Phut, Rayong, Thailand. This investment aims at supporting growing demand and advances Dow’s positions in the attractive flavor and fragrance, personal care, food and pharmaceutical markets.
Expected to begin production in 2024, the Thailand facility expansion includes an 80,000 ton per year increase in propylene glycol capacity – bringing total capacity to 250,000 tons per year. Once completed this will make Dow Thailand’s PG facility the largest of its kind in the Asia Pacific. This capacity will serve customers and support their growth in Asia Pacific and India.
Propylene Glycol is a highly versatile chemical that finds its application in food, pharmaceuticals, industrial solvents, and other critical sectors. Dow’s portfolio of plastics, industrial intermediates, coatings and silicones businesses delivers a broad range of differentiated science-based products and solutions for its customers in high-growth market segments, such as packaging, infrastructure, mobility and consumer care. Currently, the company operates 106 manufacturing sites in 31 countries and employs approximately 35,700 people.
