Equinix Launches Fifth Data Center in Singapore

August 2021

US-based data center operator Equinix has officially launched its fifth data center – named SG5 – at Tanjong Kling Data Centre Park. The launch marks the company’s continued expansion across the Asia Pacific region. In the first phase of its launch, the facility will provide an initial capacity of over 1,300 cabinets and approximately 18,400 sq ft of colocation space. Once it reaches full buildout, the facility will offer 5,000 cabinets with a total colocation space of close to 129,000 square feet (12,000 square meters).
SG5 is directly connected to Equinix’s other four International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in Singapore via low-latency dark fiber links, which enables its customers to securely interconnect with over 700 companies in the market. The facility also features several attributes which address Singapore’s ambitions towards building a future-ready, yet sustainable digital infrastructure. The infrastructure leverages Equinix’s bespoke surface cooling technology – known as the Equinix Cooling Array – which services high-density customers while also reducing water and power consumption needs. The facility is also connected to Singapore’s supply of recycled NEWater – high-grade reclaimed water which saves energy and supports the government’s green initiatives.
Jeremy Deutsch, president of Equinix Asia Pacific said, “Businesses in the Asia Pacific region continue to increase their demand for digital infrastructure, with Singapore being the epicenter for digital business growth in the region. The expanded footprint in Singapore further brings our global target towards building the digital infrastructure of tomorrow responsibly and sustainably”.
