The COVID-19 pandemic is having a positive impact on the e-grocery market in Indonesia. While currently valued at USD 1 billion, the market is estimated to reach USD 6 billion by 2025.
The growth is supported by Indonesia’s demography and growing internet penetration rates. Today it is calculated that 96% of the population has a mobile phone and 76% can access the internet. Crucially, 65% of the country’s population is below the age of 44 and urban dwellers are keen utilizer of online channels.

On the supply side, a range of players and models have emerged to meet consumers’ new needs, spearheaded by players such as Carrefour, Alfaonline.com, and happyfresh.
