Japanese Discount Retail Chain Launches Second Store in Thailand

April 2020

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the retail sector, Japanese discount chain store Don Don Donki has expanded its retail network by opening a second outlet in Thailand. Located on Ratchadamri Road, the new outlet is three times bigger than the first one, which targeted the bustling expatriate population of the district of Thonglor, Bangkok.

Open 24 hours a day, the second store of Don Don Donki in Thailand will feature more than 130,000 items of imported Japanese goods and foodstuff, including its private-label Jonetsu Kakaku.

Don Don Donki Thailand launched the second outlet in partnership with Saha Pathana Inter-Holding (SPI), the holding company for consumer product conglomerate Saha Group. Looking forward, Mr. Vichai Kulsomphop, President of SPI, said the venture aims to open ten more outlets across the country. Each outlet will cost THB 500 million (USD 15 million), occupying a space of between 5,000 and 6,000 square meters.
