Japan’s Watakyu Seimoa Corporation Opens New Medical Textile Plant in Vietnam

Japan’s Watakyu Vietnam, a textile product supplier for the healthcare industry, inaugurated a USD 33 million factory in Dong Nai province in June 2024.

The opening ceremony for the new facility at Amata Industrial Park occurred about a year after construction began in early June 2023. This project is a collaboration between Japanese firms Itochu Corporation and Watakyu Seimoa Corporation, and Vietnamese conglomerate Phu Thai Holdings.

The two-hectare facility in Dong Nai is Watakyu’s 66th factory worldwide. It also offers laundry and disinfection services for textile products. Dong Nai province, home to 32 industrial parks, has attracted 1,483 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total registered capital of USD 30.34 billion.

Dong Nai province hosts large garment and footwear manufacturers producing for international brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Puma. In the first five months of 2024, the province attracted USD 834 million in FDI, surpassing its annual target by 19%.

Japan is the second-largest FDI contributor to Dong Nai, with 267 projects totaling USD 5.2 billion, primarily in electronics, electrical items, and supporting industries. Japanese investments in the province provide employment for about 61,200 residents.

Founded in 1897 in Japan, Watakyu Seimoa Corporation supplies textile products for the healthcare sector. The company offers a range of items including bedding, curtains, patient clothing, surgical attire, and towels.
