BCG Energy has partnered with South Korea’s SK Ecoplant and Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corp. (SLC) to collaborate on waste-to-energy solutions in Vietnam’s Long An and Kien Giang provinces,.
Vietnam is struggling with a growing waste issue due to economic growth, rapid urbanization, and population expansion, particularly in household and plastic waste, posing significant environmental challenges. The partnership aims to tackle these issues with sustainable solutions, generating clean energy and safeguarding the environment.
The two firms will develop investment plans for waste management solutions encompassing recycling, sorting, and treatment of waste. Plans include establishing a waste-to-energy facility and a project to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in southern Vietnam, potentially located in Long An and Kien Giang.
Vietnam and South Korea have actively engaged in environmental initiatives, particularly in GHG reduction. The partnership showcases effective collaboration between government agencies and fosters alliances between local energy and environmental firms.
Under an agreement, Vietnam and South Korea are enhancing cooperation in natural resources and environmental sectors. South Korea plans to allocate green development assistance to Vietnam through the Korea International Cooperation Agency, aiming to boost investments in Vietnam and support energy transition, environmental protection, and climate change response goals.
In March 2024, SK Ecoplant and BCG Energy also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop renewable energy projects in Vietnam, including 700 MW capacity from onshore wind, rooftop solar, and ground-mounted solar installations.
