It has recently been reported that a prominent port and ship operator from Dubai has expressed interest in the Thai government’s Land Bridge project. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Suriya Jungrungreangkit, announced that he recently discussed investment opportunities with the chairman of Dubai Ports World. This international company operates a fleet of 1,700 ships and manages port operations worldwide. The company’s executives are expected to visit Thailand within the month, depending on schedule arrangements, to investigate potential investments.
Minister Suriya highlighted that preliminary studies show considerable investment benefits for Thailand. He noted that several leading companies from Rome, Dubai, and China have shown strong interest in the project, underscoring its feasibility. Furthermore, he mentioned that international roadshows have concluded, and feedback from these events will be incorporated into the draft legislation for the Southern Economic Corridor, also known as the Land Bridge Bill. This draft will soon be presented to the Cabinet and subsequently submitted to Parliament.
The minister assured that once the Land Bridge Bill is finalized, the project auction could commence by the end of 2025.
