Muji to Open First Store in Hanoi

July 2021

Muji, a renowned Japanese retail company selling a wide variety of consumer goods, recently opened its first flagship store in Hanoi’s Vincom Center Metropolis, after opening a new store in Ho Chi Minh City in November 2020. The store in Hanoi, which measures 2,000 square meters and covers floors B1 and 1 of the building, is one of the largest Muji stores in South East Asia in terms of sales floor area.
At the new store, Muji offers a wide range of home and lifestyle goods under the concept of “a Simple, Pleasant Life” ranging from fashion, cosmetics to household items, interior design and food. Some Muji items are cheaper when purchased in Vietnam rather than in other countries as many are manufactured locally.
The new store also features a coffee counter with a selection of premium teas, coffees, breads, pastries, and Japanese confectionary. It also has a large selection of fresh, high-quality vegetables and fruits. Customers can also make use of an embroidery service at the store.
Muji’s current plan, according to Tetsuya Nagaiwa, General Director of Muji Vietnam, is to invest in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, the largest cities in the country, in order to increase brand recognition, as Vietnam is currently one of the world’s most promising retail markets. In effect, due to its fast-growing economy and a young population with middle-class wealth, the country has attracted a rising number of investors.
