NGCP and ECCP Partner to Boost Renewable Energy in the Philippines

May 2024

In a landmark move towards innovation and sustainability, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) have signed an agreement to promote renewable energy resources. The agreement, signed at NGCP’s office in San Juan, aims to enhance the Philippines’ power supply and energy generation through increased use of renewable energy.

The signing ceremony was attended by NGCP president and CEO Anthony Almeda and ECCP president Paulo Duarte, along with key officials. Jay Layug, a renewable energy advocate and former energy undersecretary, also participated. NGCP has pledged to provide expertise and support for renewable energy projects, while the removal of foreign ownership limits has attracted significant European investment in solar, wind, and hydro systems.

“We are honored to partner with the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines in advancing renewable energy in our country. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to innovation and sustainability,” Almeda said.

Duarte highlighted the increased interest from European investors due to policy changes and emphasized ECCP’s long-standing presence in the Philippines. This partnership aims to drive the country towards a cleaner, more resilient energy future by leveraging the strengths of both organizations.
