The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to renew their maritime partnership in areas of research, development, and innovation. The MOU will strengthen MPA’s partnership with ABS, which has long considered Singapore to be a strategic hub for over 60 years.
Through this agreement, both agencies will collaborate on projects critical to the development of future ports and ships, including decarbonization, AI-driven decision support tools, predictive maintenance, and cybersecurity. Both agencies will also collaborate to develop a next-generation maritime workforce in Singapore through industry attachments, training programs, and the study of the impact of new technology and augment/virtual reality tools in training or in the workforce.
This agreement is expected to play an important role in allowing Maritime Singapore to thrive, enhancing the country’s status as a global maritime hub.
