Airbus Ventures Adds Singapore Start-Up ZES to its Portfolio

November 2020

Venture capital company, Airbus Ventures, has added Singapore start-up company, Zero Error Systems (ZES), to its investment portfolio. ZES specializes in developing ‘smart chip’ technology capable of protecting satellites from radiation damage. The technology, developed at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU), is capable of detecting and protecting against heavy-ion radiation.

The investment, which amounts to about USD 1.8 million, was raised from various sources, including Airbus Ventures, NTU’s Strategic Research Innovation Fund, private investors, and ZES founders. This represents Airbus Venture’s second investment in Singapore as it expands its presence in Asia-Pacific.

The funds are expected to help ZES scale its operations and work with other international organizations to deploy its technology into space. It will also allow ZES to explore new applications for its technology, including self-driving autonomous vehicles. Prior to the investment, ZES’s design had already been installed in 3 pico-satellites built by Japan’s Kyushu Institute of Technology. It is expected to be field-tested in space in 2021.
