Singapore Boosts Ties with Malaysia and Hong Kong Energy Sectors

November 2020

The Energy Market Authority (EMA), Singapore’s energy agency, has signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with its Malaysia and Hong Kong counterparts, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), aimed at enhancing cooperation in the energy sector with both countries.

EMA’s MOU with ST will help enhance knowledge sharing and cooperation in gas and electricity systems, as well as regulation of wholesale and retail energy markets. It will also improve collaboration in mutual focus areas such as the greater integration of renewable energy. It will be kicked off with a virtual dialogue between both agencies to discuss the challenges caused by Covid-19 and its impact on the energy sector. The event is expected to be held in the first half of 2021.

Likewise, EMA’s MOU with EMSD aims to improve cooperation and sharing of regulatory practices in electricity, gas systems, and renewable energy. This includes knowledge and experience sharing, as well as training and exchange programs between both agencies.
