In June 2024, the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland and the Swiss-Viet Economic Forum (SVEF) hosted the Vietnam-Switzerland Economic Forum themed “Strengthening Ties, Building Futures.”
During the meeting, Vietnamese authorities emphasized the opportunity for both countries’ agencies, localities, associations, and businesses to share information, discuss policies, and explore cooperation in trade, investment, finance, innovation, research, and training. This initiative aimed to enhance each country’s potential and strengths, fostering friendship and comprehensive cooperation.
The discussion on bilateral collaboration focuses on four strategic areas: economic policies supporting trade, investment, and development in key sectors; bilateral cooperation; partnership in the financial industry; and investment in start-ups.
Specifically, delegates discussed policies to support and enhance trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Switzerland. They shared insights into the potential, strengths and cooperation, and the benefits of a free trade agreement between Vietnam and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries.
Participants also exchanged views on policies and cooperation needs in key investment areas, innovation, and renewable energy for sustainable development, providing consultations on legal regulations for business cooperation.
Delegates identified finance as a promising sector for future collaboration between the two countries, highlighting financial technologies and economic trends influencing cooperation in this field. They also stressed the importance of government policies aimed at improving the legal framework and financial investment environment in Vietnam.
During the meeting, representatives from businesses and startups showcased their innovative products, services, business models, growth potential, and market expansion capabilities.
For over 50 years, the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Switzerland has grown comprehensively across politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, culture, education, and training. Trade and investment cooperation are pivotal aspects of this relationship, with significant room for growth. Swiss investment funds see great potential in Vietnamese exports, tourism, and information technology services.
