7-Elevens Stores in Singapore Launch Robot Deliveries

February 2024

In Singapore, workers can now have ready-to-eat meals, drinks, and snacks delivered by robots from a nearby 7-Eleven store thanks to the solutions developed by local company QuikBot Technologies. Seven robots can navigate autonomously through lifts, walkways, and office spaces, accept orders via the QuikBot app and can even transfer items among themselves. This service is part of Hive 2.0, a retail innovation hub located at Esplanade Xchange.

Hive 2.0 features ten retail experiences by start-ups focusing on automation, robotics, and digital services. Among these concepts is the 7-Eleven Shop & Go, Singapore’s first unmanned cashier-free store, where customers use a gantry to authorize their credit cards, select items, and exit, with charges automatically applied and a QR code for receipts. AI technology and smart cameras track customer behavior in the store.

Other concepts include Mr.R Robotics, an adaptive robotics retail store, and Le Tach Vending, offering products like herbal teas and fresh fruit. The Minister of State for Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling highlighted the role of AI and innovation in addressing manpower and operational challenges faced by retailers, as part of Singapore’s industry transformation efforts.

There are plans to scale successful concepts from Hive 2.0 across SMRT’s transit retail spaces. QuikBot Technologies aims to expand its robot delivery system to Suntec City and other commercial establishments, eventually reaching Marina One and Centennial Tower, with aspirations for global expansion to cities like Dubai, Tokyo, and Seoul, serving millions of professionals in the next four years.
