PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia (PT BAI) has appointed a Black & Veatch-led project management consortium (PMC) to develop an alumina refinery in West Kalimantan. The processing facility, the first of its kind in Indonesia, will feature a 1 million tpy smelter-grade alumina refinery, a 2x 40,000 m2/ hr coal gasification plant and a 3 x 25 MW coal-fired power plant.
As the consortium leader, American company Black & Veatch will conduct design review, equipment inspections and provide power and coal gasification subject matter expertise. Black & Veatch provides engineering solutions to power sector clients in Indonesia through PT Bina Viktori Indonesia (PT BVI).
There are two remaining partners: Progesys and Jaya CM. Progesys, a Canada-based mineral engineering company, will manage the alumina refinery process design scope, while Jaya CM, an Indonesia-based construction management company, will support the project by providing site construction engineers and inspectors.
PT BAI is held by Indonesian state-owned enterprises, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Persero) and PT ANTAM Tbk.
