In August 2024, the Managing Director for South East Asia of France’s SUEZ Group met with Vice Chairman of the Can Tho municipal People’s Committee to explore potential collaborations on projects involving water supply, wastewater treatment, and waste management.
The local authorities outlined the their efforts to attract investment for effective waste management to cut emissions and enhance environmental protection. SUEZ Group was introduced to three key investment opportunities: the Thot Not 2 water plant, a solid waste treatment facility in Thoi Lai district, and a new wastewater treatment plant.
Can Tho is actively seeking investors for the Thot Not 2 water plant and the Thoi Lai solid waste treatment plant through a competitive bidding process. Additionally, the city is looking for investment in ten wastewater treatment projects, either through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) or direct investment.
SUEZ’s representatives responded with detailed insights into the firm’s interests, noting that the proposed projects align well with their expertise and investment objectives. They highlighted the extensive experiences in water treatment projects, including industrial water treatment and other water-related initiatives, across South East Asia, including Vietnam.
The Vice Chairman assured that Can Tho city would facilitate SUEZ’s exploration of these opportunities, encouraging the company to engage directly with the city’s departments and agencies to gain a clearer understanding of the investment procedures and requirements.
