Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has announced that Eclipse Automation Inc will open its first Asian manufacturing facility in Batu Kawan, Penang. Malaysia has been positioning its location as a strategic destination for global machinery and equipment players.
Eclipse Automation is a Canadian supplier of custom automated manufacturing equipment for the life sciences, energy, transportation, consumer electronics and industrial industries. The Batu Kawan plant will serve its key customers across the Asia Pacific and other regions. Factory construction will begin in the first quarter of 2022 and commercial operations will start in 2023. The site will offer superior, value-added manufacturing options including replication line and outsourcing model platforms to effectively address the global demands.
The Batu Kawan plant will cover three acres of prime industrial land and have a 55,000 sq ft production area. The office area will span 27,000 sq ft designed to fully support its clients from the life sciences, high-tech automotive, alternative energy and consumer sectors. In combination with Eclipse Automation’s technology and manufacturing hubs in Canada, the US, Germany, Hungary, and Switzerland, the site will serve as a cost-effective and strategic location for global growth.
According to MIDA, in 2021, the country has approved a total of 49 machinery and equipment investment projects worth MYR 1.3 billion (USD 309 million). Of these, 27 were new projects with a total investment of MYR 753.7 million (USD 179.7 million) (56.3%) and 22 were expansion or diversification projects worth MYR 584.4 million (USD 139 million) (43.7%). The approved projects are estimated to result in the creation of 2,253 new jobs.
