Denmark’s Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners Explores Green Energy Opportunities in Vietnam

April 2024

Denmark’s Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), via its Growth Market Funds, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PetroVietnam, a leading player in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sector in Vietnam.

Under the MoU, the two companies will share expertise and best practices regarding energy transition matters, including technology, supply chain management, logistics, infrastructure, and skills enhancement.

This collaboration will also extend to supporting training initiatives in emerging renewable energy technologies like Power-to-X (such as green hydrogen and green ammonia), battery storage solutions, energy islands, and other related areas.

CIP views the MoU as a significant milestone in its presence within Vietnam. The company aims to emphasize their role as a pioneer in offshore wind, expressing willingness to share knowledge, expertise, and technological advancements to facilitate the realization of Vietnam’s inaugural offshore wind projects through close cooperation.

CIP’s offshore wind portfolio presently encompasses nearly 60 GW of projects across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, spanning development, construction, and operational phases.

In Vietnam, CIP is leading the development of the La Gan offshore wind farm in collaboration with Asiapetro and Novasia. Projected to have a capacity of 3.5 GW, La Gan aims to become one of Vietnam’s premier large-scale offshore wind ventures. With a total investment outlay estimated at USD 10.5 billion, the project is projected to supply electricity to over 7 million households.

In November 2022, CIP signed three MoUs with Vietnamese firms—Xuân Cau Holdings, PTSC M&C and Semco Maritime, and Pacific Corporation JSC—to expedite the progress of offshore wind projects and bolster the supply chain in the Southeast Asian country.
