According to a recent survey by market research firm Nielsen, fashion products are the most popular online shopping items in Thailand. Other industries, such as grocery and electric appliances, are moving towards digital channels to boost sales.
The ‘Nielsen Consumer Media View’ survey revealed that purchases of fashion items such as clothes, shoes and accessories, experienced a growth of over 200% from 2019. With a spurt of 800% from 2019, health products including supplements and vitamins are the fastest-growing category of products customers are buying online. The market research company also highlights that digital advertising has become a major trend in Thailand.
Meanwhile, physical retailers are reporting encouraging signs of recovery. For instance, Central Pattana, Thailand’s leading real estate developer, revealed that customer traffic at its shopping centers has increased by 30% nationwide compared to the first quarter of 2021. The trend is expected to continue after the government announced it would ease restrictions on international visitors so that they don’t have to take PCR test prior to entering Thailand.
