Petronas, its renewable energy subsidiary Gentari Sdn Bhd, Amazon, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are collaborating to ramp up sustainability and decarbonization efforts. This partnership complements Petronas’s dedication to providing affordable, low-carbon energy solutions while simultaneously lowering its operational emissions.
The collaboration’s key initiatives include a combined effort between Petronas and AWS that aims to design and build an innovative “plant of the future” in Malaysia. This will leverage Petronas’s ongoing R&D into the potential use of microalgae oil for sustainable aviation fuel. Furthermore, Amazon is keen on assessing Petronas’s alternative fuel solutions, encompassing areas like mobility, stationary power, and carbon management. Meanwhile, Gentari will be supporting Amazon India’s pledge to deploy 10,000 electric vehicles by 2025. This will involve Gentari supplying EVs and fleet management services for Amazon’s third-party delivery partners.
The partners also spotlighted their commitment to enhancing Malaysia’s digital economy, with Petronas expanding its AWS-powered digital solutions and AWS bolstering digital training programs for Petronas employees. The partnership underscores a joint mission to achieving sustainability, technological innovation, and socio-economic growth.
