SMRT Expands Themed Retail Concepts at MRT Stations with Health and Wellness Focus

August 2024

SMRT, Singapore’s leading public transport operator, has introduced a new themed retail concept at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, known as Staytion Lifestyle Centre. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by SMRT’s retail arm, Stellar Lifestyle, to diversify and enhance retail offerings at MRT stations, positioning them as convenient hubs that cater to the needs of commuters.

The Staytion Lifestyle Centre includes a mix of health and wellness, fitness, retail and food and beverage options. It also includes a medical center and medical aesthetics clinic by healthcare services provider Alliance Healthcare Group, a slimming treatment center Absolute Wellness and private gym facilities by The Gym Pod, all designed to provide essential services without commuters needing to leave the station.

This development aligns with Stellar Lifestyle’s ongoing efforts to introduce themed retail hubs across various MRT stations in Singapore. It follows the success of earlier ventures like Hive 2.0 at Esplanade station, which includes ten unique retail experiences focusing on automation, robotics and digital retail services, and the entertainment hubTimezone Orchard Xchange at Orchard station.

The themed retail approach strategically differentiates SMRT’s offerings from traditional shopping malls and online retailers. By curating retail concepts tailored to the unique characteristics of each station, such as Dhoby Ghaut’s role as a major interchange station, SMRT creates a distinct shopping experience that complements nearby malls. This strategy drives foot traffic to these stations and provides commuters with added convenience, making their daily journeys more productive and enjoyable.
