South Korea’s KT Corporation and Vietnam’s National Cancer Center Collaborate on AI-based Medical Research

January 2022

KT Corporation, a South Korean telecommunications company, signed an MOU with Vietnam’s National Cancer Center in December 2021 to promote early cancer diagnostic technology utilizing medical artificial intelligence (AI). Accordingly, the medical AI will be adopted to develop an early diagnostic solution for thyroid cancer, which also helps to create early detection solutions for several other cancers.

Vietnam’s National Cancer Center is a renowned hospital for cancer treatment and has the largest number of doctors and beds in the country. Furthermore, the center possesses the state-of-the-art infrastructure for research and development, making it an ideal partner for the strategic collaboration with KT in developing cancer diagnostic solutions.

KT announced that it would develop a medical AI platform that could address the patients’ demands and contribute to upgrading the Vietnamese medical system, which has been overloaded for years. The cooperation with the Vietnamese hospital is the firm’s effort to identify various medical AI business opportunities through global partnerships.

KT is conducting joint research on AI-based thyroid nodules and cancer diagnosis assistance with Inha University Hospital in South Korea based on AI, big data, and cloud computing capabilities. Recently, the company won recognition for its medical AI technology by taking first place in the medical AI competition organized by the Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Interventions (MICCAI) Society.
