Cypark and Petronas Chemicals Explore Waste-To-Energy Projects in Malaysia

January 2020

Cypark Resources Bhd inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia’s leading chemical producer, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd, regarding possible collaboration on the development solid waste modular advanced recovery and treatment (SMART) waste-to-Energy plants. The collaboration will focus not only for plastic waste management but also to process municipal waste for electricity generation.

Cypark Resources is an Environmental engineering company whose areas of expertise are construction and remediation of sanitary landfills, waste management and wastewater treatment plants, renewable Energy and waste-to-Energy projects (which generate more than 200MW of power annually).

Cypark also pioneered the country’s first smart WTE plant in a 4-ha land in Ladang Tanah Merah, Negeri Sembilan, processing 600 tons of municipal solid waste a day, generating around 20MW to 25MW of green Energy, enough to power about 25,000 households within its vicinity.

These initiatives are in line with the government’s vision for each state to build at least one Waste-to-Energy Plant as the Ministry of Housing and Local Government hopes to do away with dump sites, and maximize the use of existing sanitary landfills as potential location of WTE plants.
