Hendrix Genetics’ shrimp breeding activities are reputed as Kona Bay. It has inaugurated a specific pathogen-free (SPF) shrimp broodstock plant in North Bali, Indonesia. The production strength is expected to be 100,000 broodstock per year.
“Our Hawaii base is the home of our genetic engine,” said the director of operations, Dave Danson. “It’s the nerve center of our Kona Bay operation and where our research and development programs are operated through close management of Hendrix Genetics R&D.”
In 2020, Hendrix Genetics strategized to establish broodstock multiplication operations worldwide including Indonesia, where it stocked 70% of the market share. The new facility will enable Hendrix Genetics to double the current production and foray deeper into the Indonesian market, potentially gaining a dominating market share.
Prior to Hendrix Genetics’ presence in Indonesia, broodstock farmers had to place orders in advance. Their inconveniences were further compounded by the difficulty in gaining import permits, and supply chain disruptions.
Hendrix Genetics already has a similar broodstock facility in Malaysia and is currently building one in India, which is going to have double the production capacity in Indonesia. In Ecuador, Hendrix Genetics is operating a new genetic program for the country’s shrimp farming industry, which has a capacity of 400 million post-larvae per month.
