In May 2022, the Embassy of Vietnam in the Republic of Korea (RoK) organized an event with around 30 Vietnamese scientists and professionals in the RoK to discuss the bilateral cooperation in science and technology. At the event, the Head of Vietnam’s Division for Science and Technology in the RoK highlighted the national objectives to adopt new technologies to enhance high-growth industries, stressing that the country prioritizes sci-tech sectors as a growth engine.
Specifically, Vietnamese scientists presented several studies on environmental and climate change issues, metaverse development, chemical industry, 3D printing, and human resource development. These sectors point to new opportunities for collaboration between scientists and enterprises of the two nations, and call for strategies for joint scientific and technological promotion.
Bilateral cooperation has created favorable conditions for sci-tech partnerships between Vietnam and RoK, supported by the increasing number of Vietnamese scientists and students living in the Northeast Asian country. Collaboration between the two countries was particularly active in 2021, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, with several virtual meetings organized to bolster tech business development in Vietnamese and South Korean markets. One of Vietnam´s key goal is to support small and medium enterprises in the Southeast Asian country to access technology solutions developed in South Korean tech parks.
