Royal Thai Air Force to Support Local SMEs in Manufacturing Aircraft Parts

June 2020

The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has announced plans to work towards domestic manufacturing of all spare parts for aircraft. The RTAF will support Thai SMEs to manufacture aircraft parts for the maintenance and repair industry. RTAF will also collaborate with Thai Aviation Industries Co Ltd (TAI).

TAI was established in 2003 to carry out aircraft maintenance and repair. It is jointly owned by the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (Osmep), which is a government agency and the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF). Osmep and TAI Thailand will design a plan to further support the development of the aircraft parts manufacturing industry in Thailand.

The objective is for Thai SMEs to become the supplier of products and services and co-manufacturer of aircraft parts used in the maintenance process, particularly those used by the Thai air force. This is in line with the Thai government’s 20-year strategic plan to focus on the development of five new S-curve industries including logistics and aviation, o drive Thailand’s future growth. The other four S-curve industries are robotics, digital, biofuels and biochemicals, and medical services
