SIA Engineering Opens SGD 9 million Aircraft Engine Maintenance Facility To Service Next-Gen Plane Engines

March 2022

SIA Engineering has opened an SGD 9 million (USD 6.6 million) aircraft engine services (AES) facility in Singapore to provide basic maintenance services for French company Safran’s aircraft engines.

The company anticipates growing demand for the new, next-generation CFM Leap engines that are used for the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 Max narrow-body planes. The new 1,945 sqm space will provide engine quick turn and modification embodiment services for CFM LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines annually and will have the capacity to deal with a surge of up to 50% during peak periods. In December 2021, there were 3,971 of these engines in service, with more than 19,000 orders in the pipeline.

The site’s production floor spans approximately 20,935 square feet and is equipped with the latest engine QT processes and state-of-the-art equipment and technology, including a remotely guided vehicle for transporting engines. The facility can perform at least 60 QTs per year as well as on-site support and boroscope inspection services.

The facility is dedicated to servicing Safran’s aircraft engines currently and the intention is to extend its services to a wider market in the future as a recovery in global air travel leads to greater demand for quick turn maintenance and short engine turnaround, particularly those on narrowbody aircraft.

JTC Corporation’s Director of Aerospace and Marine Cluster shared that this new investment is a sign of the industry’s confidence in its recovery and expects more facility expansions and openings in Changi and Seletar Aerospace Park in 2022.
