Johnson & Johnson to Partner with A*Star to Set Up Digital Eye Health Consortium

August 2022

In July, Johnson & Johnson Vision (JJVision), the eye health unit of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) to establish an Eye Health Digital Innovation Consortium. The Consortium, a first of its kind in the Asia Pacific, is expected to focus on advancing eye health research, with a collective USD 10.7 million invested by both parties, and is part of JJVision’s three-year roadmap for developing Singapore’s integrated eye health ecosystem, which includes other initiatives such as community eye health e-referral network, an AI-powered eye care service, and telehealth.

The consortium is expected to help set up public-private partnerships between eyecare professionals, academia, and the eye health industry. Over the next 5 years, the consortium will also jointly identify and prioritize the most pressing eye health needs within the region and develop innovations addressing these needs, such as improving eye healthcare delivery, optimizing collaborations to enhance eye healthcare delivery, and developing new technological processes to support enterprises involved in primary eye healthcare delivery.

Initial projects that the consortium will work on will leverage data-centric research and new technologies, such as blockchain, AI, and data privacy preservation techniques. This includes projects such as MyoA*Bank, a digital data consent management platform that consolidates data for studies in eye health, and others.
